The two men who are allegedly behind the illegal act are Alhaji Maleek Olatunde and Babatunde Wale who the protesters claimed duped them of #700,000, #600,000 and #150,000 from different people for 15 apartments located at 7, Oduroye Street, Aguda, Ogba, Lagos.
Narrating the ordeal, the spokesperson for the protesters Mr. Sunday Anifowoshe who spoke to newsmen said “we paid money at different times. I paid in April this year while some paid as early as March, 2014. We were asked to pay first, we paid different amounts, I paid #150,000.”
“We were asked to come for the keys to the apartment on 1st October but when we got there we fund no one. That day we started fighting for ownership of the apartment. It was later we realized that we had been deceived and duped” he said.
Sunday revealed “as I am speaking to you now, next week (this Saturday) is my wedding and I don’t have a place yet and my wife is nine months pregnant, she will deliver soon and I am confused and I don’t know what to do.” He said.
The protesters who were with placards written “MASSIVE SCAM PLEASE RESCUE US” and “ALHAJI MALEEK OLATUNDE & WALE” said they had been to the Governor’s office and have also submitted a letter to the House adding that they are proceeding to the Commissioner of police and from there to the State Security Service, saying the accused persons must be brought to book.
Sunday also noted that crime such as this is not new in Lagos and however urged the House to do something about this because this is not the first time housing fraud is committed in Lagos.
